Choosing the right 3M VHB Tape to use can be a very confusing task to take.
Wrong VHB usage often leads to bond failure, not to mention the waste in the VHB cost itself.

Before contacting James, the customer is encouraged to have the below information handy to expedite the process.
1. Bonding Substrate - what type of surface(s) do you want to bond? Stainless Steel? Plastic (What type?) Painted? Powder Coated?
2. Operating Temperature - what temperature ranges are we subjecting the bond to?
3. What type of Stress - What type of stress are we subjecting the bond to? Shear? Peel?
4. Any other information that you deem relevant to the integrity of the bond you want to crease.
 
Here's some useful information to read through...
 
90% of applications out there can be handled by:
1. 3M VHB 4941 - For High Surface Energy Metals
2. 3M VHB 5952 - For Low Surface Energy Plastics
3. 3M VHB 4611 - Bare Metal
4. 3M VHB 4950 - Similar to VHB 4611 with Less Temperature Resistance
5. 3M VHB 4945 - Resists plasticizers in Vinyl (also a property for VHB 4941 for ABS Plastics)
6. 3M VHB 4951 - For those customers who have to endure freezing winters
7. 3M VHB 4910 - For an application that needs a clear bonding agent
 
3M VHB Tapes have been in service since the 1980s.  There isn't an aircraft in service today that doesn't have some integral, structural parts held together by this product.  It is really the best... bar none.
