Tech Tip:
In many cases, 3M™ Flap Disc 769F will allow you to grind and finish in one step, without changing abrasives. This is because, under normal conditions, 769F will generate a finish that is one grade finer than a fiber disc of the same grade. While a fiber disc will cut faster, this flap disc can eliminate steps and disc change-outs to help save you time.

3M™ Flap Disc 566A provides a versatile one-disc system for metal fabrication applications where more durability is needed for medium-weight grinding, small weld removal, finishing, and surface preparation. Run on a right angle grinder, this disc is a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs.

We use self-fracturing alumina zirconia abrasive with a superior cut-rate to aluminum oxide, and versatile performance on many metal types. The 566A flap disc is made with strong yet flexible YF-weight polyester-cotton backing that is well-suited for handling sharp edges and medium to high pressure applications, making this disc a great choice for the majority of grinding and finishing jobs. It is resin-coated for heat resistance. Under normal conditions, flap discs will generate a finish that is one grade finer than the finish of a fiber disc of the same grade.

It is made with an X-weight cotton backing that supports a fast cut for light duty grinding and finishing and is resin-coated for heat resistance.

Our abrasive flap disc features fast-cutting alumina zirconia mineral on durable polyester-backed flaps for extra cutting power, and long life on heavy duty applications such as weld removal, sharp-edge work, and beveling.

Ideal for tough grinding applications where final finish is important, the overlapping layers of the flaps on 3M™ Flap Disc 577F continually wear away with use to expose fresh abrasive mineral for a fast, consistent cut, while the cushioning of the flaps creates a blended finish. Flap discs typically generate a finish one grade finer than the disc is graded, reducing finishing steps. Flap discs are used on a right angle grinder. Giant size flap discs have the same diameter as standard flap discs but wider flaps. The wider flaps create extra-thick layers and are packed with 25% more abrasive material than on standard flap discs, for more aggressive cut and longer life.

Designed to run on a right angle grinder, a flap disc is a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs. A unique grinding aid minimizes heat while maintaining life on heat sensitive alloys such as stainless steel.

Flap Discs Do Double Duty
Grind and finish in a single step with the 3M™ Flap Disc 747D. Flap discs provide the stock removal capabilities of a bonded wheel with the surface finishing characteristics of a resin fiber disc.

Lower cost per grind and fewer process steps in applications such as weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, and weld seam blending make our flap disc desirable when it’s an option.

Our 3M Flap discs exhibit lower gouge potential than that of grinding wheels and fiber discs. Operators prefer the discs because they are lighter in weight and easier to control. We attach a series of abrasive cloth flaps to a backing in a fan-like arrangement around a hub. The working mineral is consolidated on the edge of the disc so a maximal amount of the working material is utilized. As the flaps wear during use, new cutting grain is continually exposed to the work surface, so they can far outlast typical discs.

By reducing steps and lasting longer, our flap discs can greatly improve productivity in grinding operations.

Quick-Change Attachment System
